Biafra is not your land – Cross River govt talks tough as IPOB allegedly targets Ogoja, Ugep

Cross River government has warned the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) to steer clear of the state or face the consequences.

Chief Press Secretary to Governor Ben Ayade, Christian Ita, gave the warning in a chat with DAILY POST on Monday.

He was reacting to speculations that IPOB members were planning to attack northern areas of the state, including Ogoja and Ugep.

Ita, while assuring the people of safety of lives and property, warned that the state government will not tolerate any act of lawless from any one or group.

“Any claim that they (IPOB) are mobilising is not true. They should not dare engage in any act that would spoil the tranquility indigenes and all residents are enjoying.

“Adequate security is in place to for all peace loving people in the state. We advise them to go about their normal daily activities without fear.

“Security agencies are on ground to maintain law and order and don’t forget that we have our homeland security.

“We have surveillance in all areas, so no cause for alarm. Cross River has been and will remain a peaceful place.”

In his reaction, Cross River State Commissioner of Police, Hafix Inuwa, debunked the planned attack on non-Igbos by IPOB.

The Commissioner, who spoke through the Police Public Relations Officer, Ms Irene Igbo told DAILY POST that the command had no such information.

He urged members of the public to go about their normal business, assuring that the command was ever ready to gulp any crisis perpetuated by anybody.

“I have called the area commanders in Ikom and Ogoja and information says there is no such threat by anybody”.

“The command is ever ready to maintain peace and order”, the Commissioner stressed.
